Itinerary

Day 01

Chittor – Bijaipur
09:30 Hours On arrival at Chittor station we will be met and transferred to Chittor Plateau to the families his beautiful castle home at Bijaipur. On arrival you will have a swim, drinks and and dinner beneath the turrets.

Day 02

Bijaipur
Day Summary Castle Bijaipur is a charming heritage hotel, situated in the heart of the spectacular Vindhyachal Hills in Rajasthan, surrounded by forests of Jacaranda, unspoilt rural villages, lakes and ancient temples, making it a perfect location for horse rides.

Today we will stay the full day at Bijaipur. You will go for rides in the morning and evening. This will help you acclimatise and get friendly to your horses. You also have the option of changing your horse from our stables in the Castle. Day free to relax, swim or take an ayurvedic massage. Dinner and overnight at the Castle.

Day 03

Bijaipur – Pangarh
Day Summary After breakfast we will ride through the picturesque Vindyachal ranges. We will ride across farmlands in the Bijaipur valley – the area that is famous for its Opium cultivation and cross the farmer’s village – Kotri. We stop over for lunch at Rawat-ka –taalab. Rawat-ka-taalab is a small lake surrounded by hills. The lunch will be served by our safari team under a Shamiyana (traditional Indian camping tent).

After lunch we will ride through the small settlement of Rawat-ka-talaab. From hereon the ride passes through forest and wood and will take us to the 1000 year old Pangarh Fort. We will ride down from the fort along the beautiful Lotus Lake to reach ‘The Pangarh Lake Retreat’ our night stop.

The Reatreat at Pangarh is located on edge of the Lake and is owned by the Castle Bijaipur Family. You can see people of the fisherman tribe spear-fishing in the lake, using canoe boats.

Day 04

Pangarh – Athana
Day Summary After breakfast we ride out on a challenging and spectacular ride through high hills which are covered with rich vegetation. We will ride across the Palcha valley through fertile farmlands. We will ride through the villages of Farmers and Gypsies to reach Saroda where we will stop for lunch. Saroda is a small village and we will have lunch at a farmers well. The lunch will be served by our safari team.

After lunch and a little rest we will ride south and ascend the high hill separating us from our night stop. Once upon the hill the terrain is flat and rich with vegetation and wildlife. We might spot blue bulls, jackals, fox, pea foul and partridges. After and hours ride across the highland we will again descend it to leave the Vindhyanchal hills and enter the flatland of Malwa (Central India). After riding for about four km we will reach the village of Athana.

Our overnight accommodation here will prove to be a real highlight as we find ourselves guests of the Ruler and his wife in their ancient fortress home; for this fort has not been turned into a lavish hotel but is as it was years ago and is like wandering round in an old world.

Day 05

Athana – Choti Sadri
Day Summary We leave Athana at 06:30 in the morning as today’s ride is the longest one. Leaving Athana we ride across the rich farmlands of Malwa. Todays’s terrain is flat except a few patches. We will ride through seven villages before reaching Darru – to stop for lunch.

Our Safari team will await us at the farmland of the old landlord.

After lunch we continue riding South-west through a little uneven terrain. We cross farmlands and four more villages to reach Choti Sadri. Choti Sadri is a well-known Hindu pilgrimage spot. Overnight at an elaborate farmhouse perched on a hill above the town.

Day 06

Choti Sadri – Sita Mata
Day Summary Mount the horses after breakfast and ride towards the Sitamata wildlife sanctuary. Riding cross a little hilly terrain we will cross the Bhanwar Mata Temple – a famous pilgrim spot of the local tribes. From here we will ride through scarce forest. We will pass some tribal settlements to reach our lunch spot of the day – Mama Mahadev.

Mama Mahadev is an old Shiva Temple worshipped by the tribal people of this area. Our ride after lunch will take us into the protected forest of the Sitamata Sanctuary. We will cross three hills and thick forest at some places to reach the tribal village of Keli. From Keli we will ride north for about five kilometres through dense forest to reach the Camp where we will put up for the night.

Our Safari team will have setup a tented accommodation of traditional Indian Hunting Tents for us. The site where the tents are pitched is very serene and quiet. There are streams of hot and cold water that flow throughout the year. You can see many different species of spiders here. The forest is very dense.

Day 07

Sita Mata
Day Summary Today will be a rest day in the camp. We will go trekking to the Sitamata Temple located on top of the hill. In the evening we will jungle-walk searching for the Coloured Jungle Fowl and various spiders.

We will have a campfire and bar-be-que dinner at the camp.

Overnight : Sitamata – In Traditional style hunting tents.

Day 08

Sita Mata – Dhariyawad
Day Summary After breakfast we ride on the last patch we did the previous evening. Reaching Keli we ride west through forest and hills. We will ride through a narrow and deep valley, along and in the waters flowing through the valley. We will cross the village of Ranna – a settlement of the Bheel tribe. We ride through the forest for about five kilometres to reach our lunch spot – Khantaria.

Our safari team will meet us with lunch ready near a stream flowing through rocks. After lunch we ride through the forest for about five kilometres to exit the gates of the protected forest. As we exit the gate we will cross a small river and ride through Chittoria village. From here we will ride across farmlands to reach the Shikarbari (hunting grounds) of the rulers of Dhariyawad.

We will leave our horses here and drive in Jeeps to the Fort of Dhariyawad which is a five minute drive away. We will be welcomed at the Dhariyawad Fort where we will be staying for the night. The Royal Family owns and manages the hotel in the fort.

Day 09
